According to internetworldstats, over 4.5 billion people on the planet earth are on the Internet, this is more than half of the world population and this growth has happened under 2 dacades.

You may be asking:

How does this relate to computer and digital skills?

Of course, there is a relationship. if not for anything it shows at the pace at which the world is adapting to the digital world.

In case you don’t know the Internet and the web that made it possible for you to be reading this post right now are made possible by computer technology.

It’s with the help of interconnected computers that the Internet is made possible to the general public, it’s also with the help of computers that are always connected to the Internet that the web and every one of the tools and resources that we have access online today are made possible.

So, you can see they are related.

Whether you are a student still schooling, or professional on a career path, or a business owner or entrepreneur, it’s essential to equip yourself with computer and digital skills, and below are some reasons why I suggest you do so starting today.

  1. To get your dream job

If you are getting ready for the labor market, computer and digital skills are two combo skills that are necessary if you hope to land your dream.

Regardless of how smart and intelligent you are, in this time and age we live in, if you don’t have computer and digital skills no reputable organization will hire you.

You can get a job, no doubt. But definitely, it’s going to be a low minimal job which actually is meant for low skilled individuals.

No organization can afford to accommodate an individual without understanding how computer and digital space really work.

One of the shallow ways most people still think today is that they can cope with their limited digital skills, that any organization that will hire them will train them in the computer skills they need to perform their job.

If you still think this way, I’m sorry you are definitely going to miss out on many opportunities to secure for yourself a dream job.

There are basic computer and digital skills that every human resources department needs you to have even though they have to upgrade your skill, if you don’t have them you are a turn-off for them because it tells them a lot about you.

These people think differently when it comes to hiring, they have to because that is the best option for finding people who are serious and committed to growth. Reputable businesses and organizations are no longer ready to tolerate individuals who are lazy in their own improvement.

In a world where information, knowledge, and skills are now rightly available at a fingertip, not having the right information, knowledge and skills that you are supposed to have only proves laziness and unserious towards personal growth.

It simply proves that you are not the right candidate that can help an organization innovate and grow, it proves that the organization will always have to be pampering and nurturing you like a baby to be able to sustain you as they grow, The HR departments are no longer ready to tolerate this in this fast-paced digital world we live in today.

Employing unskilled individuals is a bad choice for businesses and organizations in a digital age, especially when they have alternatives like going over to social platforms like LinkedIn to find vibrant and well-skilled individuals who are readily ready for a job.

Another shallow way most people still think about the labor market today is by thinking that it’s about the degree and certificate, it’s no longer about degree and certificates, it’s about skills and the ability to get things done, it’s now about getting results.

Top startup companies in the world today like Facebook, Tesla and Amazon no longer consider Degree as top requisite for any position in their company, they now go for people who have the practical skills to get things done, this tells a lot about the future of labor market.

Computer and digital skills will equip you with the right foundation to seize opportunities that are available in a computer and digital-enabled work environment, it will also enable you to expand your skills on more demanding digital skills needed in the new labor market we have today where every business activities are done online.

  1. To grow your knowledge

The biggest problem we face today is not lack of information, some centuries back its use to be lack of information, but today it’s knowledge overload.

Without a good understanding of the computer and digital world, you will still be lacking the right insight needed to make most of the knowledge and information that is rightly available to us today.

As humans, we are likely going to make poor decisions on anything we don’t fully understand and anything we have but can’t use effectively will never add to our growth.

Only when you understand computers and the digital world we live in today, then you can make the most of, in a positive and impactful way, the information, tools and resources it has provided us.

It’s when you understand this combo that you will be able to intelligently depict the full potential of the resources that is rightly available for us, and also be able to optimize it to your own benefit.

  1. To grow your business

I was shocked by a discovery that I made some months ago.

I had just finalized a new business course that I was planning to launch, first I wanted a few of my friends and family who are running a business to test the course before putting it out to the general market.

Actually, the course requires knowledge of basic computer and digital skills and because of this I couldn’t find a friend or family running a business that can test the product for me, it was at this point that I discovered that over 80 percent of my friends and family are not skilled in computer and digital tools.

This one shocked me.

I have always been in the frontline advocating for digital and computer literacy in the past years, I have been able to help tens and hundreds of individuals improve their computer skills in the classroom as a computer instructor but I have never thought that lack of computer and digital skills has grown to this proportion we have today, even in my owner inner cycle.

It’s unbearable for me to know that people are actually this behind when it comes to computer and digital skills, in a world where almost everything is computerized and digitalized.

It was actually this experience that has turned me into a computer and digital skill acquisition crusader lately, which is probably why you are reading this right now.

If you don’t have computer and digital skills it will be impossible to grow your business in the kind of interconnected world we live in today. I mean computer skills, not phone skills, these two are totally different I can’t emphasize enough about this.

How will you make the most of the tools and resources that computer and digital tools are making available for growing and scaling businesses in the online world when you don’t really understand how they work?

The word “online business” that you might have frequently heard people use these days in business meetings or seminars, are built with tools and resources that computer technology has enabled, anyone telling you that you don’t need computer skills to build your business online is probably not telling you the whole truth.

If you wish to set up your business online, you need to understand computers as a device and technology, what it enables and how to use it, this is the only way you can start getting comfortable with this tool, rather continue thinking that it’s too technical or less flexible.

  1. To become an entrepreneur

There are many entrepreneurial opportunities that are springing up today as a result of the interconnected world we live in today.

If you have an idea today that you feel will change the world, you are no longer limited to sharing this idea with only friends and family and in your neighborhood, you now have access to the entire world which is enabled by computer and digital infrastructure.

Lack of computer and digital skills will limit you from understanding the full potential of this opportunity, which has been what many entrepreneurs in the last 1 to 2 decades have been encashing on.

With computer and digital knowledge and skills, you will be equipped with the right insight to make the most of the great opportunities in the digital era we live in today and reach more people with whatever you have to offer to the world.

  1. To make better decisions about online investment

A lot of people are making poor decisions online today because of lack of understanding of what is possible and what is not possible.

Knowledge breeds understanding and understanding begot wisdom.

If you have a proper understanding of something you will be in a better position to make better decisions about that thing.

The same applies to computer and digital tools, most people are making the wrong choice online because of the level of their understanding of the tools and resources that are available to then

With computer and digital knowledge, you will be able to understand what is possible and what is impossible, you will be able to discern the good and bad, this understanding is what you need to develop the wisdom to deal with the digital world that has come to stay.

My point here is, computer and digital skills are the top essential skills you can’t afford to not have in the kind of world we live in today.

If you can’t brag about your computer and digital skills right now, then I recommend you set learning these skills as a top priority for you in the next 90 days, and decide to equip yourself with the right knowledge and skills on computer and digital tools and resources we have today.

If you are committed to improving your computer knowledge and skills, I want to aid you in this journey. I have recently launched a free Computer Appreciation Course on my learning management system at DigitaltopnotchAcademy.com go over and claim your free access to this course before i shut the door.
