The platform allows users to build web platforms without knowledge of the sophisticated programming skills needed in building web frameworks and other features that make up a web platform.

There are other platforms in the nature of WordPress, but based on a recent research WordPress is the most popular content management system on the web.

What is a Content Management System (CMS)

Types of WordPress Platform

When most people decide to build their online presence with WordPress one of the challenges they experience is differentiating the type of WordPress platform.

There are two types of WordPress platform wordpress.com and wordpress.org I went more in details explaining them in another post here.

But here is what you should know about the two types of wordpress .

WordPress.com is a hosted WordPress content management system.

HOSTED means that users of wordpress.com don’t have to go through the stress of hosting and managing their site or blog on the internet, all they need to set up a website or blog is to sign up and start using already hosted web platform.

There are free and paid version of this wordpress.com, paid version offers more controls, features and tools than the free version.

On the other hand;

WordPress.org is for those who wish to have full control of their site or blog, user take responsibility of hosting and managing their site or blog on the internet, they control and managing settings that make their web platform available on the internet.

WordPress.org, which is the parent of the WordPress content management system offers tools and templates to users who choose to take the responsibility of hosting their web platform

To self-host your site you need to buy a hosting plan from hosting companies, that is one of the costs associated with a self-hosting website or blog, but there are thousands of free templates tools on WordPress.org that anyone can download and use for free to set up a self-hosted website or blog with wordpress.

If you are planning to build your website or blog with wordpress you need to decide on which of the wordpress you will go for.

If you are hoping to build a causal website or blog platforms without a budget then wordpress.com will be the best option for you because wordpress.com offers a free access to already hosted wordpress platforms but with limited features and access.

If you have a budget and want to build a professional looking website or blog that you will have full control over, I suggest you go for wordpress.org, It’s the right wordpress platform for you.
